b.1942. Animal ecolofist, author of Heathlands (1986). Graduate of University of Wales, specialising in soil fauna of Danish heaths. In 1967 joined Nature Conservancy (now ITE) at Furzebrook research station specialising in heathland ecology, especially invertebrates, and conservation management; now a leading European authority on heaths. Active member local conservation trusts and ecological societies.
