Brian Davis

b.1934. Author of The Soil (1992). Educated at Sherborne and Aberdeen University reading zoology. Postgraduate research at Nottingham on soil fauna of reclaimed ironstone workings (PhD 1961).

First member of well-known Toxic Chemicals and WIldlife team under Norman Moore ad Monks Wood, later specialising in exology and biogeography of plant-eating insects, habitat creation and restoration, and environmental effects of spray drift. Deputy Head of the field station 1984-94. Editor of Biological Conservation. Good field naturalist in the old Monks Wood tradition, as well as professional ecologist. Enjoys hiking in mountain scenery and playing the cello.
