Noticed this morning that "The Works" in Barry, South Wales (part of a natiowide chain of remainder book sellers) had half a dozen brand new (still in cellophane packing so could not check that they are first printings though I doubt that there has been any printings after the first) hardback copies of Badger at £9.99 each. Is HarperCollins now selling off excess print runs cheaply?

Something seems very wrong with how the series has gone of recent, and theres a gut feeling that there are now too many titles produced over a year, it started with the leathers..many in this forum voiced that the print runs were to high and then to produce one for each standard n/n copy as they came out was not good sense ..not to mention being £250 each throw as well as the cost of the standard edition.

If we start for example at the first leather.."woodlands" , this was only obtained through ballot..there were 100 copys only..this became a sought after item, then when some passed hands on ebay many sold over £1000. Some time later Collins anounced that the would produce a leather "Dragonflies"  this sold well and the first sold on ebay was in excess of £1000..at first collectors eagerly sought these out. , Then bingo..someone at collins decided to produce a leather for every standard..result = to much expence outlay for the collector + collins stuck with loads of copys that wont sell = collins lowers the price and the print run= the result is that the leather edition is no longer a rare once in a blue moon published book, but one that is no longer desirable and also at this present time a bad investment. In years to come i may be proved wrongly , but the book is too expensive to invest in at this present time. as for these and the standard editions,  there now are just to many produced.

I think you've answered your own question there!

Anyway, I hope you bought them all. That's a no brainer.... (sometimes the bookseller in me just won't lie down!).

Just to set the record straight, we don't set the price for print book retailers and we have reduced our NN titles from four to three a year.
