There's a major 17pp article (including valuations) in the Apr 2010 Book and Magazine Collector on the Naturalist's Library (1833-1843) [and their similarities with (and differences to) the NN series].

Also a competition in the magazine, and online (although it doesn't appear to be up yet as I write) www.ccofgb.co.uk to win copies of NN112.

The article is pseudonymously written by 'betweenthelines', a 'south coast collector and commentator who is not always on the side of dealers'. He runs this website http://www.anewlookatoldbooks.com/blog/ (and no I don't know who he is, but am intrigued!)

Not good form to reply to your own messages, but still....

Hmmm, anyway, I've read it now. Its definitely worth a read, but one's confidence in what you are being told does rather slip when the second sentence has an error (Books and Naturalists is number 111 in the never-ending series etc etc), and one is then told that the leather bound volumes are "a publisher's money-spinning idea borrowed from the Star Wars memorabilia market". Apparently a full set now costs "as much as the National debt". I bet the incumbents of Numbers 10 and 11 Downing Street wish that were the case!

Pretty certain it's not....

£3.50 in your local newsagents, I'm afraid.

Good, glad Naturalists Library getting an airing. Far superior series to NN in many ways.

Did they use more reliable couriers in those days?

:-)
