I've just joined and placed an order for a book that is described as being in stock.  Todays date is the 4th January.  My order says that the despatch date is the 24th January.  Can anyone tell me why there is such a long period between ordering and despatch or if they have experienced problems of this type.

I could have ordered a copy from Amazon quicker than this.

Dear Peter

It sounds as if you have placed an order for a print on demand book? These are made to order by hand which accounts for the delivery time. In times of high demand it can take up to 15 days to bind your bespoke book plus up to three days standard delivery, but we will endeavour to deliver as soon as possible within this time period.

Please see this link for full details of our delivery process: http://www.newnaturalists.com/Help/Pages/Delivery_and_ReturnDetails.asp

Please see this link for an explanation of the print on demand process: http://www.newnaturalists.com/features/Pages/ThemakingofprintondemandNewNaturalists.aspx

If you have any futher questions please email newnaturalists@harpercollins.co.uk to be sure of a response.

Best

Thank you for the explaination Collin, it certainly answers my question.

Sorry if I sounded miffed but I did find the "in stock" marker rather confusing and assumed that the items were actually in stock.  I tried to access your url for delivery etc but it kept coming up with an error message.

Regards

Peter
