The New Naturalists Online
I initially met this book as a paperback in the 90s - I think at the time it was offered through a natural history book club. Although it wouldn't have been a book I'd normally have sought out I do remember thoroughly enjoying reading it. Fortunately I have easy access to the Yorkshire Dales and so much of the content whetted my appetite as it was very appropriate for the area.
The Volume is quite short for a NN - just over 200 pages - Illustrations are in Black & White - it contains the following Chapter lists
The Fascination Of Caves; The Cave Habitat; Limestone Caves in Britain & Ireland; Cave Fauna & Flora; Cave Communities; Caves through The Pleiostene; The Future of Caves
Although The subject matter is obviously about caves I would rate it first a foremost a naturalists book not a cavers. There is good detail & explanation how life interacts, survives & has evolved to the special conditions of cave life. There is discussion of life in the pools, streams, muds and walls of a cave
Note For Collins - The Paperback of this gave a few paragraphs of the content of the book "About this Book"- these mini reviews written at time of publication would be great if they could be read on your website as I'm finding it more difficult to know the actual contents of a book than that hinted at just by a title - eg - Not being a birder I wouldn't have realized Goldcrests, were covered in British Warblers nor that British Birds of Prey doesn't include Owls -
