I saw a copy of the Folklore of Birds in a bookshop where the circle with the number in it appeared to be coloured orange which immediately struck me as odd. I suppose it could have been badly sunned but it looked too bright a colour and even in shade. On my own copy, the circle background is white - as are all the pictures I can find of other books plus the printer's proof shown on plate 4 of Peter Marren's The New Naturalists 2nd Edn. Does anybody know if an alternative ever existed or is this simply discolouration?

Thanks & Regards, Richard
