| I recently had opportunity to visit this classic wildlife site - I purchased Gower when it first came out so it seemed the correct time to read the book and what a gem it is - not only does it cover the area wonderfully and in a thoroughly readable way it introduces aspects of natural history appropriate to other areas - eg cave development, limestone features. I think this may be the best NN I've read in the last 5 years. I strongly recommend this book and it now is available as POD should you be unable to pick up earlier originals (I purchased a paperback version only last year so it could be used `on the road' without fear of damage) Whilst talking about editions used out in the field - does anybody know if there is an electronic book of New Naturalists where the photos are in colour or are we still stuck just with the greyscale version used on Kindle - I think the Kindle idea is great for books and understand why it is that colour but I do like my New naturalist to have the colour contrast of lovely white paper and colour photos

Stephen (15/05/2012) ... does anybody know if there is an electronic book of New Naturalists where the photos are in colour or are we still stuck just with the greyscale version used on Kindle - I think the Kindle idea is great for books and understand why it is that colour but I do like my New naturalist to have the colour contrast of lovely white paper and colour photos Stephen, The e-book editions can be downloaded from Amazon to a Kindle or an iPad - if you download to an iPad, then the illustrations remain in colour. I did post a comment on this about 18 months to 2 years ago, together with an example of the colour illustrations from Peter Marren's book on the series - I don't have the time to find it now, but it should not be too difficult to locate. However, in my opinion, it's very difficult to justify the cost of the Kindle editions - at least for new editions. At £20 (less a penny), they are almost the same price as a 1st edition hardback! Regards, Bill
