There should be no change in colour from the front band as is goes around the spine. I have seen very few copies with an unfaded spine. I bought a copy once just for the jacket as it was unfaded, and this is now underneath 2 faded ones on my book to keep the light off it. Hope you get a good price.

Thanks
Martin

RE: Two books written by Eric Simms D.F.C.,M.A

Thats a great bonus..make sure you describe that in your description if you sell on ebay

RE: Two books written by Eric Simms D.F.C.,M.A

Spine seems to be same red/orange as the front, Micky.

Jean

RE: Two books written by Eric Simms D.F.C.,M.A

No prob jean..by the way, most thrushes you see will have a faded spine anyway because the red was highly prone to fade. hows your copy?

RE: Two books written by Eric Simms D.F.C.,M.A

Thank you, Micky. Sounds like good advice to let them get their own level on eBay! I will have to swot up on how to do this, though.... Quite exciting but a bit scary! Many thanks for your trouble. At the moment New Nats have been affected by the recession so if you list these on ebay they will certainly find the right price on auction. start them both at a realistic starting price say £9.99 ish, they will then find their price. to high and interest is lost because they are not rare books. the second thing to consider is condition..if they are inscribed by the author its a plus! but not all collectors will want say.."best wishes Jean" to be written. if its a straight "best wishes Eric Simms" great! also getting to the condition..spine fade on any d/wrapper is usually a minus..no fade =plus, and goes without saying they shaould be in v/g of near fine condition to maximise your sale. but to sum it all up try in the wants and sales on this site , or list on ebay realisticly...and good luck to you Jean. micky

RE: Two books written by Eric Simms D.F.C.,M.A

Thank you, Bill. I am sorry if I have gone about this the wrong way: I was advised by an Alex when I contacted the main Collins site, to post on the main Forum, which I duly did. Thank you for your advice.

Jean

RE: Two books written by Eric Simms D.F.C.,M.A

Jean,

I think there's a separate thread on this Forum specifically for wants and sales, although I suspect that many will have read it already here. I am not sure how many collectors there are of paperback editions, although the fact it is signed might make it more attractive.

Alternatively, you could list them on one of the auction sites like eBay and hope that there's enough people interested to bid up the price to waht you are expecting for the books.

The only other comment I would make is that the sales prices of NNs are not reaching anything like the heights achieved about 2 years ago. Some of the rarer editions are struggling to reach 40-50% of their peak (although they're still expensive) so I wouldn't know what a realistic price for your two titles would be.

Bill

Two books written by Eric Simms D.F.C.,M.A

I have a hardback "British Thrushes" and a paperback "British Warblers". both inscribed to me by the author.
