You can see this tradition in previous titles... one of the reasons I love this series. it was one of the founding principles of the NN series to popularise natural sciences in an accessible and easily readable format.

Looking at the votes returned birds and ornithology are the obvious favourites. There is a plethora of "bird books" out there including many very well written monographs. Collins would merely be replicating other publishers and hoping their NNs would compete in an already very competitive market.

it is shame we cannot have more than one vote ... i voted for geology as it had no votes! Some of my thoughts on (un)likely titles:

A natural history of beetles, Aliens and Exotic species, The Fox, British Whales and Dolphins, bees and wasps, Marine fish, British Deer

Pembrokeshire, Anglesey, Cairngorm - infact a volume for each of Britain's National Parks (already New Forest, Dartmoor, Broads, Snowdonia, Lakeland, South Downs)

an update on 'Farming and Wildlife', Sand dunes (and Saltmarsh), Wetlands, Urban habitats, Estuaries. Archaeology and wildlife. habitats and geology,

Of course single species monographs such as (forthcoming) badger there is an inexhaustable list. Are there plans for the existing out of print monographs eg: yellow wagtail, oyster, fulmar etc to be available for POD?

Also how does one come to write a NN does the author approach Collins or vice versa?

RE: New Title Poll

Can we each have three vote choices please?

RE: New Title Poll

Why inverts and regional? I'd love to see a NN on beetles, for example, but can's see how that would tie in with a region.

RE: New Title Poll

Alex / Collins,

It appears that the poll only allows us to select one area of interest, although your question ("areas" in the plural) suggests more than one. Certainly, I have interest in more than one of the subjects, although not all those listed.

Is this a bug, or are you just interested in our main area of interest - if the latter, I can foresee that future titles will be dominated by birds, flora and fauna and I don't expect to see any additions under the subject of anthropology!

Regards,

Bill

New Title Poll

Understanding what readers want is an important factor in the editorial board's decision making. Help us to understand the area that most interests you by selecting one of these options.
