Andrew Lack

b.1953. Botanist and university teacher, author of The Natural History of Pollination (1996, with Michael Proctor and Peter Yeo). Son of ornithologist David Lack, and a keen naturalist from childhood. Graduated Aberdeen University, later gaining a doctorate on the pollination of knapweeds at Cambridge under Peter Yeo. Demonstrator and research fellow Swansea University 1979-86, now senior lecturer in ecology at Oxford Brookes University.

Research interests include plant population genetics and the natural hisopry and philosophy of biological science. Other publications include a tropical flora, Illustrated Flora of Dominica (1998) and a textbook Instant Notes in Plant Biology (2001, with David Evans). Popular lecturer and 'enthusiastic identifier of shrivelled leaves'. Plays the violin, sings and enjoys long walks in good plant country.
